WHY WE OPPOSE THE PSNI

Anybody willing to open their eyes will recognise that working class communities in the north including those with long histories and legacies of resistance to British / loyalist repression are being reduced to a shadow of their former selves by criminal and anti-social elements.

Random assaults, drug epidemics and anti-social crimes such as creeper burglaries and death driving have made once proud communities a place of real fear for many (including republicans) who grew up in streets once bound together by strong ties of solidarity and neighbourly responsibility.

FIGHT FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT - PROTECT BRANDYWELL FACILITY

R.N.U. URGE DERRY COUNCIL NOT TO SHUT RECYCLING FACILITY

The Republican Network for Unity has vowed to block any attempts to close the civil amenity site in the Brandywell by preventing the removal of the machinery. Brian McFadden from the group said he had been contacted by local residents who were angered by the announcement that Derry City Council are planning to close the facility in order to cut costs. Mr. McFadden said; “We think this decision is ridiculous. This is a well-used community facility and it is never empty. People come from all over the city to use it. We intend to stage a protest outside the facility so that the people of the area will have an opportunity to voice their concerns at this outrageous decision. If it comes to it, we are prepared to lay down on the ground and stop them from removing the machinery,” he said.

MOORE STREET - DUBLIN

Republicans gathered outside the civil amenity site in the Brandywell on Wednesday to protest against Derry City Council's decision to close the facility. Representatives from the Republican Network for Unity, 32 County Sovereignty Movement, and IRSP, staged the protest outside the recycling centre holding placards calling for the decision to close the facility to be reversed. Ciaran O’Muin from the Republican Network for Unity said signatures are currently being collected for a petition in support of the campaign to keep the site open. “Derry City Council’s environmental services committee has in the past cited and applauded the success of this particular site as an example of the advantages of community waste management. “The council states that it places community needs and relations at the core of its services. They assert that they are committed to delivering quality services to local ratepayers. Why then have Derry City Council failed to consult with the local community before deciding to close this site?” he asked.
