Teacher Told To “Stop Speaking Gaelige” To Pupils.
Statement from Republican Network for Unity Spokesperson Carl Reilly;
“Pupils from the Bunscoil Mhic Reachtain, together with their teacher, were on a school outing today to the Movie House in Yorkgate, Belfast. It was when the teacher was in conversation with the pupils that he was approached by a person identifying themselves as the Manager of the Cinema who then proceeded to tell the teacher that he was to stop talking to the pupils in Irish.
“The Republican Network for Unity view such deplorable behaviour as both racist and highly offensive, and would ask for people to contact both Yorkgate and the proprietors of the Movie House, lodge complaints and make their feelings known on this shameful matter. We have been told that the days when Nationalist people were looked upon and treated as less than second class citizens living within their own City and Country.
Today’s stark example shows that we have a long way yet to travel before we are free from the legacy of British misrule in Ireland.”
