About Us
Welcome to the website of Republican Network for Unity, the group initially known as 'Ex-POW's and Concerned Republicans against RUC/PSNI'.
Originally formed in principled opposition to republican endorsment of British policing in Ireland our name change was announced at the 2007 Bodenstown address, issued at the Commemoration to
the father of Irish Unity, Theobald Wolfe Tone.
"Ex-POW's and Concerned Republicans against RUC/PSNI & MI5 was a pressure group that served its purpose when Constitutional nationalism betrayed the Republic by endorsing the British Crown forces. Today R.N.U (having contributed greatly to the process of wider republican re-allignment) establishes itself as an entity in its own right.
For our part we do not claim to have all the answers, nor do we posess a blueprint fot the future, we posess only a blank canvass upon which we are determined to design our own contribution to the struggle for Irish freedom, unity and Socialism in line with the proclaimation of the Republic declared in Easter 1916.
The Ex-POW's group has been dissolved and regrouped to form the Republican Network for Unity. This network will undertake all necessary tasks and will ensure a proper place for young and old Republicans who represent the future of us all."
Republican Network for Unity subscribe to the Proclamation of 1916
and to its fulfilment in the realisation of a 32 County Socialist Republic.
Aims and Objectives
The RNU is not a political party and is not constituted as such. We aim to move towards our goals by networking and strengthening partnerships with strategically allied groupings including Republican political parties or pressure groups, socialist groups, community groups,(Trade Unions), and ex prisoner support groups. Strategy
- · To maintain and promote core Republican values;
- · To communicate our position effectively to the media and to the public;
- · To facilitate internal communication, networking, organisation and co ordination within the broader Irish Republican family;
- To show leadership through engagement with the community and community development groups;
- To facilitate open political discussion and debate among Republicans and the wider community;
- To learn strategic lessons of Irish history, particularly recent Irish history
- To suitably commemorate Irish Republican resistance over the years;
- To promote Irish culture and awareness; and
- To engage with the community in an attempt to tackle socio economic problems within communities
- To effectively implement the combined elements of the above strategy on a local, regional, national and international level wherever possible.
