WHY WE OPPOSE THE PSNI

Anybody willing to open their eyes will recognise that working class communities in the north including those with long histories and legacies of resistance to British / loyalist repression are being reduced to a shadow of their former selves by criminal and anti-social elements.

Random assaults, drug epidemics and anti-social crimes such as creeper burglaries and death driving have made once proud communities a place of real fear for many (including republicans) who grew up in streets once bound together by strong ties of solidarity and neighbourly responsibility.

PROTEST – SAVE MOORE STREET

MOORE ST NEGLECT - A NATIONAL DISGRACE

We urgently call on all republicans and nationalists to rally behind the campaign of Brendan Plunkett to save one of Ireland’s most historic buildings. The building is a monument to the heroes of 1916 and played a central role in the rising and the subsequent decision to surrender by the volunteers in a bid to save what remained of that part of the city.

The Irish government designated the building a national monument two years ago and it has continued to fall in even greater disrepair. The real fear is that this building will actually fall or be knocked down if immediate renovation is not affected. It is our contention that the current developers who plan a £1 billion regeneration project should recognise the immense importance of this building and take steps to ensure that it is protected for future generations. Mr Plunkett said: “I would sincerely urge the Northern Ireland public to oppose any development that infringes on this national monument.’’ Contact/ write to An Bord Pleanala
